The newly elected Bulawayo mayor Councillor David Coltart, has spearheaded the official launch of a week-long clean-up campaign dubbed Big Spring Cleaning which is aimed at restoring the city’s cleanliness.

The initiative, which started on Monday, is set to run until 7 October.

With the City of Bulawayo facing significant challenges in waste management and sanitation, Cllr Coltart recognised the urgent need for a comprehensive clean-up exercise.

The week-long clean-up campaign mobilised community members, organizations, and local businesses to actively participate in efforts to transform the city’s appearance and improve overall living conditions.

During the launch of the campaign, Cllr Coltart emphasised the importance of collective action in achieving the desired outcomes.

“Bulawayo has a rich history and a unique cultural heritage that deserves to be preserved. By coming together and actively participating in the clean-up campaign, we can restore the city’s beauty and make it a place we can all be proud of,” said Cllr Coltart.

The Big Spring Cleaning campaign is focusing on various aspects including waste management, litter removal, and beautification projects.

Community members are being encouraged to volunteer their time and resources to clean up public spaces, streets, and neighborhoods.

To ensure the success of the initiative, Cllr Coltart has called upon residents and the business community to provide the necessary support and resources.

He stressed the importance of waste collection services, adequate disposal facilities, and public awareness campaigns to promote responsible waste management practices.

The campaign has received positive responses from residents, community organisations, and businesses, all eager to contribute to the restoration of the city to its former glory.

Many believe that a cleaner and more attractive city will not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also attract tourism and investment opportunities.

In addition to the clean-up efforts, the Big Spring Cleaning campaign will also focus on educating the public about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

The hope is that the campaign will serve as a catalyst for long-term change, inspiring residents to continue practising responsible waste management and preserving the city’s beauty for generations.
