As expected, former Senator and Minister David Coltart has been elected as mayor of Bulawayo.
The news was confirmed by former CCC Spokesperson and now Mt Pleasant Legislator Fadzayi Mahere:
CONGRATULATIONS to David Coltart on being elected Mayor of Bulawayo. Here’s wishing you the best in your tenure and hoping the residents, business & all stakeholders will benefit immensely from your passion for this great city!
Coltart, a member of the CCC party, was nominated unopposed.
Donaldson Mabuto was elected unchallenged to the position of deputy mayor.
Coltart was a founding member of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), which was headed by the late Morgan Tsvangirai.
He would then serve as Minister for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture in the Government of National Unity. This was after having won the Senate race for Khumalo, under standing the Arthur Murambara-led MDC faction banner.
